Representatives from the national carrier Uzbekistan Airways and the Afghan private airline Kam Air recently convened to discuss the foundational aspects of this joint venture. According to the preliminary project details, the new carrier will be based in the Fergana Valley, aiming to enhance regional connectivity and facilitate cross-border travel between the two neighboring nations.
Strategic Logistics and Infrastructure Development
The primary objective of the meeting was to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the existing aviation infrastructure and the technical requirements for organizing ground and flight services. A key focus of the negotiations was the selection of Fergana International Airport as the primary hub for the new structure. The airport's location is strategically significant due to its proximity to the eastern borders and its role as a major transport node in Central Asia.
Currently, the air bridge between the two countries is primarily focused on the capital. The parties highlighted the following logistical priorities for the new carrier:
