New Dioscuria Train Route Extension to Guma Station Starts September 1

Starting September 1, 2026, the transport accessibility of Abkhazia's capital will improve with the extension of the "Dioscuria" train service. The rail link, which currently operates between Sirius (Adler) and Sukhumi, will prolong its route to reach Guma station. This adjustment aims to provide passengers with more direct access to the central and historical districts of the city, facilitating easier transit for both local commuters and international travelers.

Updated Schedule and Route Details

The extension applies to one of the two daily services operating from the Adler district. According to the updated timetable, the train departing from Sirius at 10:35 will now conclude its journey at Guma at 14:25. The return service is scheduled to leave Guma station at 16:00, arriving back at the Sirius terminal at 19:55.

  • Departure Sirius: 10:35 — Arrival Guma: 14:25
  • Departure Guma: 16:00 — Arrival Sirius: 19:55
  • Frequency: Daily operations starting from the autumn season

Strategic Location of Guma Station

Guma station serves as a significant transport node due to its proximity to several major cultural and scientific landmarks. The station is situated within the urban limits of Sukhumi, offering convenient pedestrian access to the following sites:

  • The Sukhumi Botanical Garden
  • The Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Pathology and Therapy (Monkey Nursery)
  • Central historical architectural ensembles
The extension of the rail route to Guma station represents a logical step in enhancing the logistics for visitors to the region, placing them within walking distance of the city's primary attractions.

This operational change is expected to streamline the movement of tourists arriving from the Russian Federation via the Sirius transport hub. By extending the line, the railway operator reduces the need for additional ground transfers from the main Sukhumi station to the city's northern landmarks, thereby optimizing the travel time for passengers interested in the region's cultural heritage.
