The Civil Aviation Organization of Iran has announced the complete restoration of air traffic across the nation's entire territory. Following a period of restricted flight paths, both domestic and international operations have normalized, reopening critical aerial corridors for global travel and transit.
Round-the-Clock Operations Restored
According to the official statement from the Iranian aviation authorities, the airspace over both the eastern and western regions of the Islamic Republic has returned to a full, 24-hour operational mode. Previously, commercial flights were restricted exclusively to the eastern portion of the country, creating significant deviations for regional flight paths. With the lifting of these limitations, necessary conditions have been established to accommodate a high volume of traffic.
The newly implemented changes include:
- Full resumption of commercial flight corridors in the western territory.
- Implementation of a round-the-clock operational mode for all sectors.
- Re-establishment of optimal transit routes for international carriers.
With the western airspace fully functioning in normal mode, transit flights through Iran's airspace have resumed alongside regular domestic schedules, offering more direct pathways for carriers traveling between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The optimization of these flight paths is expected to significantly reduce travel times and fuel consumption for international airlines utilizing the Iranian corridor.
Temporary Night-Flight Restrictions by Rosaviatsiya
Despite the comprehensive reopening announced by Tehran, certain foreign aviation authorities have maintained temporary precautionary measures. The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsiya, previously implemented a ban on night flights for Russian carriers operating within Iranian territory.
According to the issued Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM), Russian airlines are restricted from flying from Russian airports to Iranian destinations between 11:00 PM and 11:00 AM Moscow time. This safety directive remains in effect until June 24, 2026, limiting overnight passenger and cargo transport between the two nations during these specific hours.
The complete reopening of Iran's airspace marks a pivotal development for regional aviation logistics, restoring a major transit hub for international air travel. While temporary restrictions like the Russian night-flight NOTAM alter immediate schedules, the establishment of round-the-clock flight operations across all Iranian sectors provides a more stable framework for global airlines planning future itineraries through the region.
