Bus to Zaporizhzhia — what you need to know

Zaporizhzhia is the capital of Zaporizhzhia Oblast and a major industrial centre. The heart of Cossack — Khortytsia Island, site of the former Zaporozhian Sich, lies within the city boundaries.

About Zaporizhzhia

Zaporizhzhia is a city on the banks of the Dnipro — the heart of Cossack and one of the country's largest industrial centres. The 2,860-hectare Khortytsia Island, located within the city boundaries, is the largest river island in Europe. It was here in the 16th–18th centuries that the Zaporozhian Sich stood — the fortified centre of the Zaporozhian Cossack Host.

In 1927–1932 the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant (DniproHES) was built at Zaporizhzhia, becoming a symbol of Soviet industrialisation. Alongside it grew colossal industrial enterprises: Zaporizhstal steelworks, Motor Sich aircraft engine plant and Zaporizhzhiatransformator. The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant — the largest in Europe — is located 40 km from the city.

Zaporizhzhia is a city of bridges: several bridges span the Dnipro here, including a unique island bridge across Khortytsia. The riverfront and island are the city's main recreation areas.

Travel tips
The bus arrives at Zaporizhzhia Central Bus Terminal (Metalurhiv Avenue). Soborna Avenue and the city centre are a 15-minute minibus ride away. Khortytsia Island is 20 minutes by minibus.
