Bus to Nova Kakhovka — what you need to know

Nova Kakhovka is a city in Kherson Oblast on the bank of the Dnipro, built alongside the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant in the 1950s. Known for its unified Stalinist architecture and Dnipro waterfront.

About Nova Kakhovka

Nova Kakhovka is a city on the right bank of the Dnipro in Kherson Oblast, built between 1950 and 1956 alongside the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant — one of the largest HPPs on the Dnipro. Unlike most Soviet "new towns", Nova Kakhovka was built to a single architectural master plan and has preserved the coherent mid-20th-century character of Stalinist housing blocks, wide boulevards and green parks.

The city was situated on the shore of the Kakhovka Reservoir — one of the largest artificial bodies of water (230 km long, up to 25 km wide). In June 2023 the Kakhovka dam and HPP were destroyed as a result of military action, triggering catastrophic flooding in the lower Dnipro and draining most of the reservoir.

Nova Kakhovka is also an important transit hub on the Kherson–Zaporizhzhia road, with bridges connecting the left and right banks of the Dnipro.

Travel tips
The bus arrives at Nova Kakhovka bus terminal. The Dnipro waterfront is a 15-minute walk away.
