Bus to Mykolaiv — what you need to know

Mykolaiv is the capital of Mykolaiv Oblast, known as Ukraine's "city of shipbuilders" and the main centre of Ukrainian shipbuilding. Situated at the confluence of the Southern Buh and Inhul rivers.

About Mykolaiv

Mykolaiv is a city in southern Ukraine at the confluence of the Southern Buh and Inhul rivers, founded in 1789 as a shipyard by order of Gryhoriy Potemkin. Named after St Nicholas, the city developed from the outset as a powerful shipbuilding centre for the Black Sea region.

Hundreds of vessels have been built at Mykolaiv's yards over more than two centuries — from 18th-century sailing ships to Soviet aircraft-carrying cruisers. The Black Sea Shipbuilding Plant built the Kiev-class aircraft-carrying cruisers and the heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser that later became China's aircraft carriers Liaoning and Shandong.

The Mykolaiv Zoo is one of the largest and best in Ukraine and Eastern Europe, founded in 1901 with over 4,000 animals of more than 600 species.

Travel tips
The bus arrives at Mykolaiv Bus Terminal (Teatralna Square). The city centre and Buh embankment are a 15-minute walk away.
