About Kremenchuk
Kremenchuk is a major industrial city in Poltava Oblast, situated on the banks of the Dnipro. In 1959–1961 the Kremenchuk Hydroelectric Power Plant was built here, forming the Kremenchuk Reservoir — one of the largest in Europe by surface area (2,252 km²). First mentioned in 1571, the city was an important fortress and administrative centre of Left-Bank Ukraine in the 17th–18th centuries.
Kremenchuk is best known as a heavy industry centre. The Kremenchuk Automobile Plant (KrAZ) is one of Europe's largest producers of heavy trucks and special-purpose vehicles, exported to over 40 countries. The Kremenchuk Oil Refinery (KNPZ) is one of the largest in Ukraine.
The Kremenchuk Reservoir and the Dnipro waterfront are the city's main recreational areas. The Kyiv–Dnipro–Zaporizhzhia highway and a key railway line both pass through the city.
