About Kamianske

Kamianske is a city in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast on the right bank of the Dnipro. Until 2016 the city was known as Dniprodzerzhynsk — a name given in 1936 after Felix Dzerzhinsky. As part of decommunisation in 2016, the city was restored to its historic Cossack name Kamianske (meaning "the stony place"), which had been used before 1936.

Kamianske is a major industrial centre. The Dnipro Metallurgical Plant (DMK), founded in 1887, is one of the oldest and largest ferrous metallurgy enterprises in the region. The chemical industry — including production of mineral fertilisers — also plays a significant role in the local economy.

Kamianske is the birthplace of Leonid Brezhnev (1906–1982). The city is situated between Dnipro and Kremenchuk and is a convenient transit point. The Dnipro Reservoir waterfront and Victory Park are the main recreation areas.
