Bus to Dnipro — what you need to know

Dnipro (formerly Dnipropetrovsk until 2016) is the capital of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and Ukraine's fourth-largest city. A major industrial and cultural metropolis on the banks of the Dnipro river.

About Dnipro

Dnipro (formerly Dnipropetrovsk until 2016) is one of Ukraine's largest cities, with a population of over one million. Founded in 1776 as Yekaterynoslav — a new capital of New Russia planned by Potemkin and Catherine II — it developed into a major industrial and administrative centre of the south.

In the Soviet era Dnipropetrovsk was a "closed city" — the main centre of the USSR's rocket and space industry. The Yuzhnoye Design Bureau and Yuzhmash plant are based here; they designed and manufactured intercontinental ballistic missiles and the Cosmos series of spacecraft for the entire Soviet Union. Yuzhnoye's Zenit launch vehicle and satellites remain part of the global space market to this day.

The Dnipro waterfront is one of the longest urban embankments in Europe at about 23 km. The city also has one of Ukraine's three metro systems.

Travel tips
The bus arrives at Dnipro Main Bus Terminal (Dmytra Yavornytskoho Avenue). The city centre and embankment are a 15-minute metro or minibus ride away.
